The Hair Saga

Every 2 or 3 years, I find myself in a serious, virtually nonrecoverable hair drama. In the past few years, I have had some okay haircuts and some great haircuts, but apparently my luck had run out, because on Tuesday I received "the worst haircut ever." That my friends, is a direct quote from my loving, but honest husband. Normally, Casey is fairly unsympathetic to my hair fits, his lack of reaction forcing me to grasp some rational perspective, but even he could not deny that my hair had been cut and feathered and texturized and thinned beyond repair and could not blame me for my loud and tearful hair tantrum.

I actually had found an amazing, big time hair stylist, here in little ol' Brenham. I had only been to her once but I loved what she did. Casey, Blake, Braelyn and I called her our stylist and friend. Unfortunately, some things happened with her and after Christmas she did not return to Brenham. But it was time for a haircut and so I just went to another lady in that same salon. After she was done, and I was looking at the final product, I knew it was bad, but I thought, "maybe it's just the way she styled it, it's usually better once I wash it and dry it myself." Ladies, she gave me a bob on top, which stuck out like a mushroom cause my hair is so thick, and then underneath she left longer, thinner hair. Casey says it looks like she gave me two different haircuts. It is so bad. Surprisingly enough, I was handling this very well. We couldn't believe what we were seeing so, I was still able to chuckle at the situation.

The next day, I came home from story time and Casey said (and I agreed) that I had to go get "that" fixed. So, I ran into Capelli's, a cute little salon downtown and asked if anyone had time to work on the mess right then. Sure enough a girl was available. She thinned out the mushroom on top, which helped a lot, but there was not much to do with the longer hair underneath. At that point I really didn't want to have short hair, so I was not ready to give into the bob. So she said that I could take a couple of days and if I still didn't like it to come back and she would cut the bottom.

Well, it's been a couple of days, and there is just no way around it...I have horrible hair! All I could think about was the months of ugliness ahead of me...that's when the tantrum hit. Needless to say, it's been in a ponytail ever since, which is a battle in and of itself. Yesterday, I resolved to cut it all off. I've given into the bob. However, having no trust in the hair "professionals" that Brenham has to offer, I am going to a trusted stylist in Houston. Friends, this lady was far when I lived in Sugar Land! But...I've been to her before, Cat has gone to her for years, and I am running out of hair to mess up on...so, off to the big city. Hopefully, I will return with happier hair.

So that's the hair saga. I feel like this happens to me a lot and that it only happens to me...maybe I'm just the only one silly enough to get three haircuts in one week. Anyways, if you have had a hair drama, I'd love to know I'm not alone...please share. I'm not the only girl who throws hair tantrums, right?

The sadistic part of me really wants to see pictures...

I used to have hair drama ALL THE TIME until I finally found someone fabulous. She is the ONLY person who, after cutting my hair, I leave happy and don't feel like I have to go home and play with it.

We took pictures, but they just didn't capture the heinousness of it...i'll get Casey to take some more, and see if we can't show off the ugly!

Friends in Blogdom,

She is not lying. It is atrocious. I don't even know if a picture could capture the heinous nature of this cut. It really looks like she put a 'bob' wig on top of a longer hairstyle... Pray for my dear wife...

Well, Steph, I do have a couple of hair horror stories. . .

1) When Allan and I were in Houston while he was going to school (1974), my sweet grandmother offered to pay for me to get my hair done by her beautician on the day of my work Christmas party. The fact that this lady was did my grandmother's hair should have put me on guard, but it didn't. Anyhoo, to make a long story short, I came out of the salon looking like Tammy Wynette - BIG HUGE HAIR! I know it wasn't a bad haircut, but STILL. When I got home and knocked on the door of our apartment - Allan opened the door and my goodness the expression on his face! (He's lucky he didn't laugh. I think I might have hit him upside the head if he had!) Needless to say, I washed it and Allan and I together got it presentable before the party.

2) When I was, oh, about 35, I had long hair. My stylist said it would be O.K. to highlight and perm my hair. Wellll, not so. After she permed my hair it was cotton on top and was three colors ranging from light brassy to dark brassy blonde. Not at all good. I ended up having to have it cut off and lowlighted. What a mess!

You will get through this and your beautiful hair will grow back. Just hang in there.

HAHAH I just found your blog, and this post in particular made me giggle!! I HAD to comment! Yes, yes, and yes, I too have had horrible hair tantrums! Would you believe me if I told you I went in and had my hair re-dyed THREE times in one week?? Oh sweet Lord, it got to the point where the stylist actually told me: it's just stopped taking the dye. WHA?!
Maybe if SOMEONE would have done it right the first time...fuscia just really wasn't my color....
ANYHOO, I feel your pain, my dear, I really do! :) But thanks for the giggles anyways!!

I am sure "V" and her magical scissors can sort through this mess! By the by-I shared your "diligence jar" with a friend who is a very busy mom of three and she is SO excited to take charge of those little projects in her life that never get done!

I told you I would share one of my horror stories...I went to a salon in Sugar Land after seeing a friend's hair color and cut that I thought was exactly what I was looking for. I knew it was the wrong decision when, after she finished the coloring I had blond skunk stripes throughout my brown hair, and she picked up her scissors and started cutting layers into my hair in the most haphazard way I have ever seen. I left barely on the brink of tears, got in my car and started sobbing. I called Phil (poor husbands) and he said immediately go back to my regular stylist.

I called and begged for a walk in appointment, trying to stop crying long enough to talk. But, once I plopped down in her chair, I kept sobbing, "I'm so ugly. I'm so ugly" Sweet Mevlia promptly turned my chair away from the mirror, offered me a glass of wine, and an hour later I had the most beautiful head of hair I had ever had, or ever have had since. She never let me forget that day. What drama!

What a great story Cynthia! Thanks for sharing! I could definitely use some Melvia magic right now...and a glass of wine wouldn't hurt either! :)
