Is It REALLY Worth It?

To all the CHI users out there....

A few weeks ago I got my hair cut, and try as I might to tell these stylists that I do not want to use a flat iron, they will hear none of that crazy talk. It's as if it is no longer an option to NOT flat iron our hair. So here I am...using the flat iron. :|

Here's my question and dilemma. I used a flat iron for a while about 2 years ago and didn't like what it did to the ends of my hair. I was not using a CHI. Here I am again, using the same flat iron and worried about the damage it is going to do to my hair.

If I get a CHI, will it REALLY be a lot better for my hair? If you use one, does your hair stay healthy? Do you use any products to protect it? Does anybody know where I can get one for a really good price?

I'm fine to invest in a CHI, but I don't want to spend the money if it is still going to do damage to my hair. I'd love your input on this. Help! My hair needs you!

I don't enjoy using a flat iron either...and I don't use CHI, but the woman who cuts my hair has got me hooked on Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum. It helps protect your hair before you use the flat iron. You put it on wet or dry hair before you use the flat iron. I think my hair feels just as healthy as without. It might be worth a try. :)

My sister LOVES her CHI. And I must admit that when she visits and brings it with her, I'll absolutely use her flat iron over my cheap-o Revlon one. I do think it's less damaging to your hair if you're not using any product, but you can probably get away with using the one you have if you use some product like Biosilk with it. A little bit of Biosilk goes a long way, but it too is pricey...so you gotta weigh the options I guess - invest in the CHI once or shell out for product. Personally, I'm a little too cheap for either - but I do covet my sister's CHI and may eventually invest in one or try to talk a relative into getting it for me as a gift! :)

Gotta get the CHI Steph. It is in a league all its own. I use it daily - so you decide if my hair looks damaged! :) I sometimes use a spray to protect - but it weighs my hair down. I bet it would work great for yours though. Best price on CHI - amazon.com. Just bought one for yet another sister.

Here's the perspective from the old lady, the one with wavey hair, who ironed it as a little girl in the 1960's...tell the stylist you want a cut that works with your hair. Now what I would have thought in my 20's...find a product to protect your hair and keep using the flat iron you have.

Hi Steph --

Long time CHI user, first time commenter. haha

One of my best friends is a hair stylist, so I will email her and ask her for her comments and email them to you.

But here are my uneducated opinions...

I definately think the type of flat iron makes a huge difference as far as damage goes. There are other brands that have great flat irons (Paul Mitchell for example) so you could ask your hair dresser if they have a recommendation.Although,my mom bought a really good one where you can control the heat level and it literally fried her hair, so you have to be careful.

I have had my chi since college and it is still going strong. I love it and I haven't noticed damage to the ends of my hair. I use it every single day. I would suggest getting a serum that protects your hair from heat, but that is even for blow drying etc. Coming from another girl with a TON of hair, I think the CHIs are helpful to control the masses. :)

As far as getting an affordable one, I would look on Ebay too. Also if you are close with any hair stylists, they can buy CHis at wholesale price. :)

I will email you once I hear from Erin (my friend the hair stylist --which by the way if you are ever looking for an amazing hair sytlist in Houston, Erin is THE best! and I am a very picky girl)

Hope this helps.

The CHI is amazing! I have semi-frizzy hair and its the only flat iron that works to tame my fro. I've tried them all.

However, I think because it reaches such high heat, its a little more damaging to hair than most flat irons. You MUST use a serum/product to protect your hair from the heat.

Also, the CHI is so great that you can also do those loose cute curls that all of the celebrities have in their hair. It blows my mind- curling hair with a flat iron. But, it can and is being done. So you are getting a curling iron and flat iron all in one (just trying to justify the price a bit:).

The are pricey. But, I've had mine for over 6 years now and will never use anything else.

I say invest in the CHI. I have had mine for almost 5 years, and it still gets the job done. You will definitely see a difference. As far as it being better for my hair? I am not sure about that. I don't think it has done any damage, though, and I don't use any product besides shampoo and conditioner. Go for it!!

Chi = YES.

I have uber curly hair and I only have to "go over" my hair one time! It's great. I love it.

But make sure (if you get one) that you save the box. You only have lifetime warranty if you have the box with it. Just a small hint ... I learned from experience :(.

Hey- post a pic of the new do!
