CookingLight...You Done Me Wrong!

For a while there, CookingLight magazine was adding a number of delicious recipes to my recipe box. However, the last three recipes I have spent time and money on have not been so successful. 1. Garlic Chicken - Okay, but not a keeper. 2. Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies - Also okay, also not a keeper. (By now my confidence is low...I need a winner!) 3. Tonight's dinner, Chocolate Chili.

Let's talk about this Chocolate Chili for a moment. It's not actually chocolate chili, rather, chili with chocolate, which I had heard was the secret ingredient for killer chili. So, I was very excited to get to work on this dinner. Casey was at school, Braelyn was in bed, I had the whole kitchen to myself, to cook for myself. No rush, no distractions, no one's opinion to consider but my own.

Here are my ingredients, all ready to make some culinary music.

Here's the secret ingredient, melting it's way to glory.

And here's what I ate for dinner. Pimento cheese sandwich. :|

CookingLight, what-a-ya say we keep chocolate where it belongs, huh? I just don't know how much more of this I can take! What if I had had guests?!

To everyone else, on a different subject, there's my title. The font is showing up a little jagged on my computer, so we'll try to mess with that some more. I'm still wondering about the Bible verse I had up there (Psalm 16:5-6). I would really like to use it, that's where I got my title from, but I don't know that I'll like how it looks up there. All in all, I think I like it...it's growing on me. Please continue to share your thoughts.

When I got home I had left-overs out of the trash can... Seriously... Out of the trash can...

It was like bland vomit...

First off, I don't believe Casey, AT ALL.

Second, pimento cheese?! Were you punishing yourself? Sick me out, GreasyChicken!

in the recipe's defense, my dad puts hershey kisses in his chili, and it is really good!! maybe it was just a bad recipe. i am actually making some chili tomorrow night, but my recipe has no chocolate. i'll let you know how it goes!!

First off, Ms. Triana,

I ate left overs out of the trash can, they were still in a syrofoam container, but still, out of the trash.

Second, this occurred after tasting the chili, which tasted like bland vomit... Disgusting I tell you...

i was just going to say that!(morgan) --our dad's chili where he used (all) of my christmas hershey kisses (without telling me) was the best, richest chili i have had yet. so good. maybe i will get his recipe for you. :)

oh, and you could put your bible verse to the side... right above your profile, to be the first thing guests read, or right below your profile. :)

HAHA!I laughed so hard when I read this post! If you only knew the recipes I have messed up ober 8 years of marriage! LOL Bruce's fave mistake was the time I tried to make rice krispie treats. I followed the recipe EXACTLY, but most of the rice krispies had NO marshamallows touching them! Bruce scooped those out and ate them as plain old cereal for dessert! What can I say...it happens to the best of us! :)

Casey and Morgan, if your dad wouldn't mind, I'd love to try his recipe. I am trying to find meals that are fairly inexpensive and easy to make for a crowd, since I am cooking for our Thursday community group and sometimes Sunday dinner for our church. I never imagined I would be cooking so much for other people! I'm enjoying it...I just don't know if my guests are! :)

Hey Steph! I also use chocolate, but in cocoa form. Also, I add a little brown sugar. I've watched chili-cookoff shows on tv, and noticed they do what I've always done, a spice dump, meaning add spices a little at a time, cook for about 30 minutes, then taste and add more as necessary. Also, chili is better the next day, after being in the fridge! I'll post my recipe at my blog, if you're interested!

Awe man! And you bought the high dollar chocolate too. That stinks that the chili turned out terrible. Chili is a staple food during the winter in our home.

A got-to place for recipes that I ALWAYS use is www.allrecipes.com. You might already use it. I like that they people rate the recipes after they cook it. There are several chili recipes on their that I have used before that are excellent and tons of others too. It is my favorite recipe spot (and I'm a recipe fanatic).

I LOVE the new look. The font looks great.

dont give up, there is good chili to be made I'm sure. I've never put chocolate in mine, but thanks for the heads up on the cooking light recipe! I use those from time to time. I've not been generally enthused about them though. I prefer BHG or Kraftfoods.

Stephanie I have been married almost 23 years, so this is my unsolicited advice to you regarding confidence in the kitchen, always ALWAYS let your husband cook. Maybe you can think back years ago to my husband cooking for us at the ballet pool parties.

Love,

Mrs Annette
