Regarding Austin

Well, I'd like to start off by saying thanks to all those who left suggestions for the Cease Austin Getaway. Ya'll are amazing! I can't tell you how much we appreciate your tips. We will definitely get to as many spots as we can, and of course...I'll blog and let you know how it goes. It's gonna be great, I can already tell!

Our trip is December 12-16th. Casey's Board of Directors has a Christmas party the 12th, so we will say bye to baby, go to the party and then head to Austin. We'll be getting in late, but this way we have three full days. Oh, and yes, we had already booked our hotel before I blogged. Beautiful suggestions though. We'll keep those in mind, when we're, ahh...you know...richer! :) And sad thing about the Paramount Theater! I saw online that they are showing White Christmas. I was so excited to see it on the big screen, but the last showing is at 7:00 on the 12th and we're not getting in till much later. Bummer! Casey was devastated by the news.

Question: Have you heard about or have an opinion about any of the following places/events?
*23rd Street Artist Market
*Live from the Plaza
*2nd Street District
These are just a couple of things I found online.
Ooh, and another question. I would like to maybe spend a little time in Fredricksburg. Does anyone know how far away it is from Austin?

Anyways, thanks again! If any other great ideas come to mind, don't hesitate to comment!
I don't think I'll get a chance to blog again before Turkey Day, so have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving! God Bless!

Hey, love. Driving to Fredericksburg, spending some time there, and driving back would consume a whole day. I don't think it is worth it. It is a neat place, but I think if you are vacationing in Austin, you would really do better to stay there the whole time.

I have no wisdom on Austin...but I am happy to be able to catch up on the Cease life. I am really excited about this blog world. Its like getting a weekly newspaper on everyone's life! Josh and I are going to come up some Sunday night in December and if not December for sure in January! Look forward to seeing you guys and meeting your little chica!

Don't miss the 2ND Street District. It's in the heart of downtown and FINALLY making downtown Austin livable: live, work, shop, drink, dine, have fun! Among my favorites are Finch, Shiki, Jo's, Mercury Design and Eliza Page. But there's much to eplore.

Fredericksburg is a sweet quaint spot and the Rather Sweet Bakery and Cafe (owned by Rebecca Rather, niece to Dan Rather and a pastry chef) is a MUST BUT Sara is right. It is a 45 minute drive and there are so many shopping enticements that end up being very overpriced (even though they are so cute) and what I call Catalogue Boutique... you know all that high end, Shabby Chic collectible stuff that looks old and warm but is really reproduction and like something else down the road. But if you truly desire to go the scenery is very nice, the restaurants are good. My bet would be to spend your time relaxing in Austin. I don't know anything about the places you mentioned seeing as I have not lived in Austin since 2001. So many things change in an instant. Have a sweet blessed time.

Steph,

Mel and I have been a few times. I highly recommend doing dinner on Lake Travis if you get a chance. This is our favorite place...great Mexican food with a great view. It's called the Iguana Grille. Here's a link. http://www.austincityguide.com/content/iguana-grill-austin-restaurant.asp
