Nothingness: 1-10

My apologies for not being the most interesting or consistent blogger lately. In an attempt to get back into the swing of things, here's 1 through 10 of what's going on with me and my fam. (I hope I can make it to 10!)

1. Last week, I put myself and my whole family on a cleaner, greener diet. More fruits and veggies, more whole grains, more water, less soda (personally, not doing so hot on this one), less meat, more organic, real foods. I've gotten into a rhythm of cooking two meals a week. With leftovers and activities during the week, this is about all we need. I decided that each week one of these meals will be vegetarian. I can't speak for the rest of my family, but I am very excited about this adjustment. Tonight was our second vegetarian dinner night. It was successful in the sense that I loved what I made...whole wheat spaghetti with spicy tomato sauce, garnished with parm and fresh basil. Delish!!! It was not so successful in the sense that I am the only one who ate the sauce. Too hot for Braelyn, too many chunky tomatoes for Case. (Casey does NOT do tomatoes!) Oh well. We'll keep trying. If anyone's interested in the recipe I would be happy to post it. It is SUPER easy, and very tasty.

2. Last Wednesday we (when I say we, I mean someone we hired) put sod in our back yard. Hallelujah! It still needs SO much work, but it's a start.

3. Monday night we finally took the railing off of Braelyn's crib. Ever since Braelyn turned two, we've been meaning to convert her crib to a "big-girl" bed, but we just kept putting it off, mostly because Casey was traveling and I didn't want to have to make this transition by myself. But he's home now so we finally bit the bullet. To my surprise, it's been going beautifully! She's had two bedtimes and one naptime and no problems. Glorious! When she wakes up in the morning she is still calling for me to come get her. I know it's a very short matter of time before she figures out that she can get in and out by herself, but for now I'm thoroughly enjoying her innocent, and steady commitment to the baby ways. I'm in no rush for her to learn otherwise!

4. I'm in a blog lull. Clearly.

5. I recently discovered (on-line) a make-up line just for red heads. I am enjoying the items I bought. I know drug stores and department stores think that there are only blondes and brunettes in the world, but they are mistaken. Red heads are make-up wearing people too! ;)

6. Pilates is going really well. I'm so glad to be moving again! The only thing I don't like about it is that so much of it is how I am using my muscles. For example, it may look like I'm doing an exercise correctly on the outside, when in fact, I may be using the totally wrong muscles. Everything is very "subtle." It frustrates me. The instructor promises me that if I keep working, I'll "feel" when I'm doing it right. We'll see. She'll never really know, will she? ;)

7. Tomorrow night we have the New Parent Orientation for Braelyn's school. She starts in a couple of weeks and will be going Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30-11:30. To be honest, Casey and I are having second thoughts. I don't know why, we just are. Not about the school...it's just...she's two...and she's my punkin pie...and there's that whole private school tuition thing. Before we make any decisions we're going to go check out this orientation, maybe meet the teacher and all that. I'll let you know how it goes.

8. I have been baking a lot lately. I found a whole wheat blueberry muffin recipe that I liked...finally. And yesterday I made zucchini bread for the first time. It came out pretty good, but I was disappointed to learn that while zucchini bread sounds healthy, it is in fact the opposite of that. It has a ton of sugar! I used honey instead of white sugar, but still...it was a lot of honey. If anyone has a recipe that is super yummy without so much sugar, I would love to have it. :)

9. Lost. Casey and I are still watching it. The fact that we've already seen all of these episodes and know what is going to happen has in no way diluted the addictive power of The Island! We love this show...again.

10. I have not been reading! I don't know what's wrong with me! Well, yes I do. For one, the previously mentioned item. And two, I'm not in love with my book. But I AM going to finish it. By the end of August I will finish it. Plus, Casey will soon start back to school and have lots of reading and scholarly things to do in the evenings, which means Lost will become a luxury of the weekend and I will return to my bookwormedness. I'm looking forward to it. I'm pretty sure I've "lost" (haha) a couple of I.Q. points this summer. I guess that's what summer's for.

I did it. I made it to 10. 1 through 5 probably would have been a wiser choice. Oh well. This is how I get back in a blog groove..I make lists of nothing.

Alright...off to watch Lost. G' Night.

Love the pic of Sweet B in her leotard and tights as well as the pic w/ your mother.

I quit reading The Shack, seems I am 1 Christian who does not love it and does not think it's the Pilgrim's Progress of this century.

Totally do a little preschool at age 2 - you won't regret it!! We started at that age, and it gave me just enough time to run a few errands a feel a bit more refreshed for the rest of the day! Plus she will seem a little less bored with all her toys at home once she's been away from them for a while! ;)

I just wanted to say that I love your blog- I love how blunt you are and so very funny! I stumbled upon it through Bri's blog some time ago...I used to attend a Friday night youth service that Casey used to lead in Sugar Land. Anyhow, just wanted to say hello and that I enjoy reading.

Hi! Yes, I would love the recipe for the spaghetti - my kitchen skills are lacking greatly, and I've just become a stay at home mom, so I need all of the help I can get for my poor husband and two boys! And two more things - Jake also starts school soon - two days per week - and I'm freaking-out. I just don't think he's ready and I think it's going to be traumatic for both of us. Keep us posted on what you end doing with your little one. Lastly - we're huge "Lost" fans too - it is so great, isn't it? Take care! Terez

ahh Lost...I haven't been such a loyal fan. Ever since we moved from TX back to FL, we've been all off in our TV schedule! I'm gonna rent the last season and catch up! I'm so lost in what's goin on! And that is so not cool!

I would LOVE your spaghetti recipe! Shockingly, Jason will eat stewed tomatoes, he just picks out the large pieces! We need to start eating healthier too. Let me know if you have a recipe book or something with healthy stuff in it!

Love the top 10 list. Wow, a big girl bed. . . It took Annelise a long long time to learn that she could get out of it herself. Isn't that funny that they do that. I really don't understand it. Personally, I vote yeah to preschool - they end up LOVING it and it sure makes it easier the next year when they need it even more. But only you and Casey know what's best for little B. I'd love the muffin recipe.
